Meet Sherri Smith

Immersion 2022 was life-changing - I learnt so much about repeat patterns, Illustrator, and I think just as importantly how to believe in myself and know that I can follow my creative passions and make a living from it. 

Before starting Immersion I had been working in the Interior Design industry and prior to that, I was a stay-at-home Mum while my babies were in school. I had been dabbling in a variety of creative and artistic endeavours but struggled to make money. 

When I came across Bonnie’s Immersion course in 2021, I was instantly inspired. I felt an excitement in my soul that couldn’t be quelled. I took the year to save for the program in anticipation of studying with Bonnie in 2022. Of course, I was super excited to join the course and jumped in with both feet. I was super proud to apply myself to the program and I learnt invaluable lessons not only in the technical aspects of repeat patterns but also in the self-belief that “I can do this”! 

Fast forward to this year, I have quit my day job and I now have a full-time design career. My goal for this year is to complete three collections and reach out to art directors with the intention of securing my first licensing contract. Currently, I have my first collection in Spoonflower and I have been receiving positive responses and orders for dresses in my designs - so exciting to see my art on fabric and holding these creations in my hands!

Thank you Bonnie Christine for making my journey possible in surface pattern design! You have enabled me to fulfill a lifelong dream of carving out my creative career, and working towards financial security for me and my family - I am eternally grateful.
