Meet Robyn Schumacher
Before starting my surface pattern design journey, I had just completed my bachelor’s degree majoring in Business French and Classical Studies and had decided to take a gap year. It was in this year that I discovered the world of pattern design and fell in love. In 2021, I taught myself the basics of how to create repeat patterns by hand and a few Photoshop skills, but that was pretty much the extent of my knowledge.
I wanted to take the Immersion course so I could better my understanding of the industry, develop the exact skills needed to succeed with pattern design, and learn more about how I can make this dream a reality.
Immersion undoubtedly accelerated my learning and knowledge of the industry and taught me all the exact skills needed to succeed as a surface pattern designer. Thanks to the course I was able to complete my first pattern collection and was successful in getting it licensed as wallpaper. With the help of the new Adobe skills I gained, I was also able to land myself a job working as an in-house designer at a wallpaper company.
So, if you are thinking of taking Immersion, I would say that it is 100% worth the investment. My confidence as a surface pattern designer has increased exponentially since taking the course, and I have gained so many new skills directly related to the industry that I never had before – from practical and technical skills all the way through to the nitty gritty business side of things.
Honestly, Bonnie has just opened a world of possibilities to me, and I am so excited to see where it all takes me.
