Meet Rachel Brown

Before Immersion, I illustrated on my own, shared my work on Instagram, and sold prints and books of my work. It was fun, but I didn't feel fully connected to it and didn't sell consistently. 

I first learned about surface pattern design through Bonnie's podcast, and it BLEW MY MIND. I had never noticed all the art on the products around me, and it never occurred to me that someone was designing them. 

I got excited about all the possibilities and was intrigued by the idea of making patterns, so I signed up for Immersion as soon as I could! 

I was a little worried that I wouldn't be as successful as other designers because I was just a beginner, but I figured worst-case scenario, I learn a new skill and have fun in the process. 

After Immersion, I felt so much more confident in my design skills. I felt like my work had a purpose and a place in the world. 

My favorite skill I picked up from the course was being able to design in collections. I used to struggle with designing a cohesive collection of work and now it's something I genuinely enjoy doing. 

I'm now designing and publishing my work on Spoonflower and also working to land my first licensing client. I've made several sales through Spoonflower, designed custom wallpaper for multiple friend's homes, and finally feel like there's a place for my art. 

If you're a beginner like I was and you have even an inkling of curiosity about surface pattern design, I would say you should definitely sign up for this course. Bonnie does an amazing job at breaking down Adobe Illustrator so it's super easy to understand and shares everything you need to know about the industry to take your first steps in building your business. Don't put your dreams on the back burner for another year. Invest in yourself now!
