Meet Kayla Ann

After graduating with a Fine Art degree, I was looking for a creative career that would support me financially and also fulfill me. I realized that I absolutely love patterns and that I myself could design them! But I was overwhelmed with the idea of learning a new software that I wasn’t very familiar with.

I decided to google search surface pattern design. I stumbled upon Bonnie Christine and I knew that I had to sign up to take the Immersion course. Immersion gave me the knowledge and the confidence to put myself out there as a surface pattern designer. I worked through the course at my own pace (took about 6 months) and when I finished I had a full portfolio to share.

Shortly after finishing Immersion, the creative director at Cotton + Steel reached out to me about designing a collection of quilting cotton fabric! Ever since then, my career has been growing and I’m so excited to see what’s next.

If you’re on the fence, make the leap! Taking Immersion completely changed my life and I’m so grateful for everything I learned from the course. I recommend it to everyone who is interested in learning how to become a surface pattern designer. In 2022 my goal is to license with a stationary company and collaborate with more brands on apparel and accessories. The sky's the limit!
