Meet Erin Kendal
When I started Immersion in 2020 I was already a top-seller on the Spoonflower marketplace, and I’d been using Adobe Illustrator for 20 years. However, I was mostly self taught so I really lacked confidence as a designer and I definitely suffered from imposter syndrome!
Let me say… I got SO MUCH out of Immersion! The content is comprehensive, the business lessons are invaluable, and Bonnie is a wonderful teacher.
The content was thorough, clearly explained, and beautifully presented. I'd been using Illustrator since 2003 but I learned SO many new tools that have enabled me to make my patterns more dynamic, not to mention more efficient and tidier (aka professional!). Plus, the community is so encouraging. It's the whole shebang!
Before I became a creative entrepreneur, I worked 9-5 in the corporate sector for 15 long years. I resigned from my job the same year I took Immersion — and I’ve never been happier in my life. I’m now running a muti-6-figure company from my home (currently in Australia) while homeschooling my two kids.
By the time I signed up for Immersion, I was already selling my designs on Spoonflower (where I now make over $100K per year) and I was just starting to license my work — but I was feeling way out of my depth because I was completely self-taught. I was winging it and suffering from imposter syndrome in a big way.
Having Bonnie, an industry leader, teach us how she uses Illustrator and how she creates her designs and runs her business helped to alleviate all my worries and concerns. It also helped me to become more professional in my own business.
In summary, since taking Immersion…
+ I’ve quit my corporate job
+ “retired” my partner from his high-level corporate job so that he can pursue his creative interests
+ become an independent surface pattern designer, via print-on-demand platforms
+ created numerous streams of income (with plans for more)
+ taught over 500 students,
+ been featured in magazines, and
+ licensed my art to some really cool brands.
However, what I value most is that my partner and I no longer have to answer to a ‘boss’. Our family has complete freedom of time and we get to choose how we spend it. We're thankful for the flexibility to homeschool our kids. Our old hobbies have become life — and every day feels like a holiday.
The best part about this SPD journey is the FREEDOM it’s given our family. We don’t set the alarm (if only my kids would get the memo!), I work when I want, and from where I want. In fact, now that the Australian lockdowns are over, I’ll be taking my work on the road to travel around the country with my young family in our freshly renovated caravan.
Thank you for being such an inspiration, Bonnie!
