Meet Elizabeth Vandermey
Before my journey into Surface Pattern Design, I had spent years going from job to job - looking for that one thing that would light me up and excite me enough to pursue a career in it. Having studied fine arts and fashion design in school, I knew that it had to be something creative, but after experimenting in fashion, florals, and merchandising (among some not so fun jobs), I found Surface Pattern Design and knew that this was what I had been searching for this whole time!
I was drawn into the world of Immersion by Bonnie’s free lesson around creating custom wrapping paper - which I thought was the coolest thing ever! It was only a few weeks later that the invitation to join the full fledged Immersion course arrived and I thought: “why not?”. I had just quit yet another job and had some time on my hands. Initially I was concerned about the investment cost but I felt like it was something I just had to do, so I made it work and I’m so glad I did!
After Immersion, I saw my Illustrator skills improve immensely (I learned things I never knew were possible), and I also noticed a newfound confidence in myself and my design capabilities. Taking this course filled me with hope at all the possibilities that were now available to me.
My favourite part of the Immersion course hands down were the live calls with Bonnie Christine herself! Not only was the technical knowledge and troubleshooting helpful, but her energy, enthusiasm, and gentle encouragement kept me going day after day - especially when any niggling doubts came through. I would say one of the greatest skills I acquired from Immersion was boundary setting and learning to value my time. For me, this looked like showing up to every live call because I KNEW it would benefit me, even though initially it felt indulgent, I’m so grateful I did. And since then I’ve become even better at setting boundaries, prioritizing my needs, and going after what I want!
Since Immersion, I have taken the Mentorship program with Bonnie Christine (which was another incredible experience), and I’m on my way to becoming a full-fledged creative entrepreneur with my long awaited notebook collection gearing up to launch early 2022.
Immersion was hands down THE thing that set all of these creative projects and business endeavours in motion for me, and for anyone who’s on the fence, I would say to you: “why not dive in?!”. If you’ve been doing the same thing and are having the same results, switch it up, learn from the very best, and treat yourself to an incredible guide who’s not only going to show you how to master Adobe Illustrator and become a creative entrepreneur, but she’ll also show you how to be your own cheerleader, how to overcome mindset blocks, and how to be a better artist without having to go to art school.
Looking ahead, I see myself retaking Immersion and the Mentorship over and over, as well as building additional revenue streams into my business <3 and of course, creating more collections! I really and truly feel like I’m just getting started and I can’t wait to see it all come together!
