Meet Clea Broad

Before my journey with surface pattern design, I was working in various creative fields, such as styling, millinery, floristry, and prop making. When the pandemic hit in 2020, all my work stopped and the only blessing was that I had some time to explore digital art; an area where I had no experience. 

When I discovered Bonnie Christine, I realised that she was the perfect person to demystify Adobe Illustrator which felt like my nemesis at the time! The only thing that was a barrier for me to join Immersion in 2021 was the price tag. It felt like a big investment in myself, but I decided I was worth the investment. It turned out I was right as my first licensing contract for fabric, which featured patterns I created during Immersion, more than covered the fee! 

I loved the easy-to-follow Illustrator lessons, the live calls, the fantastic bonus content, and the incredible support staff and community. I loved the course so much, I took it again as an alum in 2022, which allowed me to level up my Illustrator even more! 

Since then I've secured more licensing deals and have built a strong portfolio that I'm very proud of. Bonnie has also been a real inspiration and a shining example of creative entrepreneurship. Without seeing how impactful an educator and entrepreneur like Bonnie can be, I might not have ever thought of all the ways I can creatively move through this world, or been brave enough to dare to dream and forge my own path.
