Meet Ashleigh Fish
Before discovering surface pattern design, I was hand painting personalized mugs and making jewelry. I wanted to take Immersion and learn surface design because I was getting burned out by creating each item by hand. I could see the limitations of having to hand-make each product. I liked the idea of being able to create digitally and license my work.
Initially, the price of Immersion held me back, as well as the time commitment, but I made my money back within a few months and the hours I spent going through the course each night were well worth it! The best part about it was that I learned a skill in 8 weeks and now had a course that I often return to - and every time I do, I pick up something new!
After Immersion, I had a lot more confidence in myself. I could make patterns (finally) and had some goals about how to make surface design my full time career. I love that I can now whip up a collection fairly quickly! I thought Bonnie was crazy for getting a collection done in 30 days as it would take me that long to create a pattern! Thanks to Bonnie, I have learned to plan, focus, and not multi-task! I can now also create a collection in a similar time frame.
Since immersion I have licensed a collection with RJR fabrics, I have also seen my designs on many products from MCNs (cloth diapers) to pajamas and kids clothing. I have also dipped my toe into teaching which I love so far. I have spent the last year working on my portfolio and this year I am hoping to focus on pitching and hopefully teaching how to make patterns from watercolor paintings.
